About
An overwhelming majority of Americans are scientifically illiterate. This is disturbing. My professional life thus far has focused on communicating science to others via written, visual, or oral presentation. I have interpreted museum exhibits to the general public, orchestrated snake shows for eager zoo visitors, crafted accurate illustrations of marine organisms, re-written countless worksheets and labs for high schoolers and crafted a website for a homeschooled zoology student. In short, I take scientific information and put it in a format appropriate for a given audience.
This website is designed for teachers, parents, and anyone with an interest in scientific literacy. My goal is to provide resources to educators as well as a discussion area for a growing scientific community to share ideas on how best to educate our youth. Teachers all too often end up working in isolation from their peers, from scientists and from the community. Through this website I hope to encourage more collaboration among the professionals we are in order to improve science teaching and scientific literacy.
In addition to my passion for teaching science, I enjoy creating art and going hiking. On a lighter note, I’ve included trip reports from my latest adventures, other written musings, as well as photo galleries highlighting my hikes and my artwork. I hope to soon include podcasts and a growing list of downloadable biology worksheets, labs and presentations.
Stay tuned, the best is yet to come!
